Activating heritage is a catalyst for urban life and diversified communities

The historical heritage and the various qualities of the existing buildings and structures make the Imperial Shipyard an entirely unique development project. The existing buildings hold a great untapped potential for hosting and fostering new urban life. Our vision is to re-activate the old heritage functions as a catalyst for urban life including cultural, commercial, and arts programmes.

In order to respect and reinforce the qualities of the existing buildings, we keep and preserve as many of the existing buildings and structures as possible in the Imperial Shipyard development. This approach also addresses aspects of social and environmental sustainability. Integrated among the industrial cultural heritage, we introduce three new building typologies. Apart of urban morphology, they are offering diversified types of communities, from local courtyard neighbourhood, to more alternative ways of living in vertical communities. In the shipyard area, new housing typologies are integrated among the culturally historical structures by interpreting the hall typology of shipyard architecture and Old Town city block. These are kept in a dense, and relative small scale in respect to the existing buildings, which are seen as the key value of the entire area.
