Exhibition in front of the Dyrekcja building

“The Shipyard on photos by Kosycarz” is the first photo exhibition of not two, but three generations of Gdansk photojournalists, documenting the decades of Gdansk Shipyard and the emerging Young City.

The Gdansk Shipyard for many years was the largest industrial plant in Pomerania and a witness to many historical events of significant importance to the history of the city and the country.
Three generations of the Kosycarz family have guarded the history from the end of World War II, so that many important moments won’t be lost.

In the lens of Zbigniew Kosycarz, such events as the launching of the first Polish ship, MS Sołdek, after the World War II, or the first three editions of the International Song Festival, which later celebrated its triumphs at the Opera Leśna in Sopot, were documented. The senior of the family often was also a witness to everyday life at the shipyard, showing the hardships of the work, care and passion of the shipyard workers.

The fall of the shipyard was documented in the lens of Maciej Kosycarz and the development of the artistic, entertainment and cultural activities, which is now most often associated with the emerging Young City were documented by Maciej, but also by his son Konrad Kosycarz.

The inauguration of the exhibition took place on June 18 and was combined with a curator’s guided tour by Maciej Kosycarz.

The exhibition will decorate the fence around the renovated Dyrekcja building until the renovation is completed.
