Easter 2020

Helping former shipyard workers

Easter is usually a special time for family gatherings. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s holidays are different from others. Although they will not look the way we are used to it, we should not forget about important values, like unity, hope, and solidarity these days. Especially we should look after the vulnerable members of our community during these challenging times. In that spirit, we decided to thank and support former shipyard workers.

Even ordinary daily shopping can turn into a troublesome activity for these seniors during the pandemic. That is why we decided to create holiday food packages. The Association of Memory Guardians of the Gdańsk Shipyard helped us in reaching former employees of the Shipyard. Together with Owoce do biura, we prepared carton boxes with the most necessary groceries, fruits, and vegetables, topped off with a sessional accent in the form of an Easter cake.

With the kind support of MiiMove Carsharing, we started our route from the Imperial Shipyard on
Good Friday punctually at 12:00. On our trip we visited several places, from Przymorze, Zaspa, to even Pruszcz Gdański. The delivery took place in a warm and pleasant atmosphere, full of gratitude, but with extreme caution. As limiting direct contacts with seniors is one of the most important recommendations of doctors during the pandemic the Easter gifts were delivered contactless and waited for all recipients at their doorstep.

We added sessional greetings, in which we thanked them for their work and contribution to the changes which were initiated at the Gdańsk Shipyard. We also assured our full support in the coming months.
We are glad that our initiative was received so warmly by the members of our shipyard community. Writing #newstories we do together – by showing help, gratitude, and support – even in times when we have to physically distance ourselves ✌️
