Imperial Shipyard sponsors GTW Gedania

We have set the strategy of putting people at the heart of events as one of our revitalization goals, although it does not only concern our project and creating space for people. We are actively involved in the life of our city and supporting local initiatives. Over recent years, we have received numerous awards for our CSR activities, including: “Well-perceived company”, “Patron of Culture 2020” and “Helper of the Year” awards, which has confirmed to our team that what we do is right and necessary.

This year we entered new (unknown to us) waters by becoming a sponsor of the Gdańsk Rowing Society “Gedania”. The company and the club signed a sponsorship agreement, under which the club will receive construction materials from the company enabling the renovation of the club’s gym and a set of T-shirts for male and female players for the upcoming season.

The Gdańsk Rowing Society “Gedania”, as the heir to the “Gedania” rowing section, celebrated in 2022 its 100th anniversary. Since 2004, when after the dissolution of KKS Gedania, GTW gained a separate legal personality, the GTW Gedania club has been cultivating and promoting rowing traditions that are closely related to the history of the city of Gdańsk and Przeróbka district. Since the 1940s, residents have not only been able to participate in sports activities free of charge, but the club is still a meeting place for residents.

Although the club’s current priority is grassroots work, it also runs many additional sports and educational programs. The club’s youngest players are 10 years old. They are introduced to the world of sports and infected with a passion for rowing. By assumption, every person could find their safe haven here – a place where they feel good, can forget about everyday problems and release negative emotions. Classes for students are exempt from membership fees, so anyone interested can train at the club, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

The club aspires to the achievements of the end of the 20th century, including achievements of Olympic athletes (including the silver medal of Małgorzata Dłużewska and Czesława Kościańska in 1980), several medalists of the World Championships and later also of Europe, and hundreds of medals of the Polish Championships. We are particularly pleased with the latest achievements, which are the result of the work of exceptionally dedicated coaches – Marta Rychert (finalist of the World Championships, several-time medalist of the Polish Championships) and Maciej Łasicki (medalist of the Olympic Games, three-time medalist of the World Championships and 12-time Polish Champion). In 2023, GTW Gedania players won the bronze medal in 8x+ CHA (boys’ coxed eight). It is worth noting that the club’s players previously took part in an event of the rank of the Polish Championship in 1997. In the Inter-Provincial Youth Championships, the club took 4th place, with 3 medals (gold 4xCHA, bronze 2xDZA and bronze 4x+CHA). Masters (age group 27+) took 2nd place in the general classification of clubs this year with six MP medals. In local regattas (mainly provincial level), competitors stand on the podium in virtually every competition in which they take part.

We are proud to have the opportunity to support a club with such a rich history and impact on the local community. We hope that by improving the club’s housing conditions and relieving some of their current worries, we will give them some breathing space to fight for the next medals and #newstories.
